STUDENT OUTREACH

The Student Outreach Subcommittee aims to enhance interaction between structural engineering professionals and students of all levels. At the university level, YMF works with engineering departments and student groups to publicize SEAONC scholarships, organize Student Nights, and give presentations about structural engineering and our organization. At other levels, YMF is developing a High School Curriculum for teaching students about structural engineering.

Students should also consult the Professional Development section of the YMF web page for information about engineering licensing exams.

If you are a professional interested in helping with Student Outreach efforts or a student / educator looking to take advantage of YMF's Student Outreach programs, please contact us!

SEAONC Student Nights

YMF coordinates two annual student nights in which university students tour an engineering office and then attend one of SEAONC's monthly dinner meetings. Student nights offer a great opportunity for students to meet and mingle with structural engineering professionals and learn about current topics of interest in the field. Typically, UC Berkeley Student Night occurs around November, and Stanford Student Night occurs around March.

In addition to scheduled Student Nights, students are always welcome at monthly SEAONC dinner meetings at a discounted cost. Visit the SEAONC member home page to register for the next meeting. (You do not need to log in to access the member home page.)

Scholarships

SEAONC offers annual scholarships to university students. Check the SEAONC web page and/or contact the SEAONC office for information on how to apply.

University Liaisons

YMF University Liaisons serve as principal points of contact to universities and student groups. Liaisons are typically engineering professionals who are alumni of the schools they serve. They are available to answer questions, disburse information about SEAONC programs, and facilitate events.
