SEAONC Spring Seminar

The 15th Edition of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, the 2016 Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, and the 3rd Edition of the Seismic Design Manual

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

PG&E Auditorium, San Francisco

Night Two:

15th Edition of the AISC Steel Construction Manual & 2016 Specification for Structural Steel Buildings

Speaker: Susan Burmeister, S2B Structural Consultants

Continuation of Evening 1.

3rd Edition of the Seismic Design Manual

Speaker:  Rafael Sabelli, Walter P Moore

Recognizing that building codes and design tools serve different functions, AISC has long endeavored to separate design guidance from its standards and include it in commentary, design guides, and manuals. The manuals include design examples demonstrating one method (or more) of achieving the code requirement. They also include tables and similar tools to facilitate rapid design.

The AISC Seismic Design Manual provides comprehensive design examples of systems, including those defined in AISC 341 (Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings) and “R=3” systems. The manual examples include all of the most common systems, and many others. The examples typically include one representative design of each of the components (e.g., a brace design, a column design, a beam design, a gusset design, etc.).
