The SEAONC Legacy and History Committee presents Cutting Edge Seismic Design in 1875. This presentation traces how architect-engineer Alfred Bult Mullett pioneered seismic-resistant structural systems in two 1870s San Francisco federal buildings—the Old San Francisco Mint and the Appraisers Building—decades before earthquake design entered modern building codes, and how both survived the 1906 quake intact. Join us in person or virtually to explore these early, untested innovations and the stories behind how they came to be.
