Disaster Recovery: Untold Stories Every SE Needs to Know

We know buildings need to be safe, but what else does it take for individuals and communities to recover? What factors affect the speed and extent of recovery?  What can we learn from communities who have recently faced a natural disaster?  What role do structural engineers play, whether we know it or not?  In this panel that’s meant to inspire and challenge our notions of recovery, we will explore these questions and more.

Panelist:

Laurie Johnson, Incoming President of EERI and earthquake consultant after Christchurch
Bill Holmes, participated in the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission
David Ojala, SE, participating in recovery efforts from the Anchorage earthquake
