The Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) is a valuable resource for practicing structural engineers and anyone affiliated with structural and earthquake engineering in Northern California. Members of SEAONC are automatically affiliates of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) and the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).
Members have access and discounts to numerous resources for elevating technical knowledge and professional development. Below is a list of some of the member benefits and discounts:
Monthly Dinner Meetings
Spring, Summer and Fall Continuing Education Seminars
Mini-Seminars and Short Courses
Other SEA Affiliations
Membership Pays for Itself
The monthly dinner meeting is an opportunity to network with other engineers and enjoy a presentation on a notable project or structural engineering topic during the after dinner program.
All members receive a discount to monthly dinner meetings.
These 2-evening technical seminars keep members up-to-date on the latest code developments and design practices. Presentation notes and a light meal are included.
All members receive a discount to continuing education events.
Additionally, shorter, more focused, seminars on various structural engineering topics are offered throughout the year.
A portion of your membership dues goes towards affiliation with other SEA organizations. As a result, your membership includes benefits with both the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) and the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).
SEAOC committees produce many technical publications, such as the Blue Book, which are available to members at no cost through the members-only portion of the SEAOC website.
SEAOC also produces and publishes the IBC Structural Seismic Design Manuals.
Members receive the ICC membership price on these manuals as well as other codes and standards through the ICC website.
SEAOC hosts a three-day annual conference full of technical seminars and social networking events. The 2015 SEAOC Convention will be held September 9-12 in Seattle, Washington. The 2016 SEAOC Convention, hosted by SEAONC, will be held September 13-17 in Maui, Hawaii.
Members save $100 on registration.
NCSEA benefits include receiving the monthly publication Structures magazine (in print and/or digital editions). Members also receive discounts to the NCSEA webinar series.
Note about privacy: Since your membership includes affiliation with both SEAOC and NCSEA, SEAONC shares your contact information with these organizations to ensure you receive the benefits your membership entitles you to on the state and national levels. The SEAOC website has its own membership portal where you can customize your communication and privacy settings. NCSEA is currently revamping their website and will soon allow individuals to personalize their profile and communication preferences as well. If you have concerns regarding privacy or wish to opt-out of receiving communications from SEAONC, SEAOC and/or NCSEA, feel free to contact the SEAONC office and they will be able to assist you. However, by opting out of receiving communications, you will no longer receive notifications about the benefits from all three organizations that your membership entitles you to.
Members have access to job listings and can post their resume on the SEAONC website for potential employers to view.
Business Forum hosts luncheon meetings featuring a speaker or panel discussing business, management, legal, or marketing topics.
Members receive a $5 discount per meeting.
NCSEA’s Structure Magazine is available for download each month. This magazine features technical and profession related articles to help you stay abreast of the many changes occurring in the industry. Additionally, SEAOC and SEAONC email monthly newsletters to let you know about the events and activities of the organization and various committees.
Members have the opportunity to participate in a variety of committees. Technical committees produce valuable publications or do work to contribute to codes, legislation, and regulations impacting structural engineering and other building practices locally, statewide, nationally and globally. Other committees plan events and activities from continuing education to community volunteering to social outings. Participation in committee activities provides a chance for members to interact and collaborate with other structural engineers outside of the normal work environment.
