The 2019 SEAOC annual convention at Squaw Creek was a tremendous success. The SEAONC “A Team” in the Presidents Cup gave their all constructing a sail propelled car but accidental torsion turned out to be a big problem. Two daring “A Team” members also represented the North in the first SEAOC drone race. While their sportsmanship may have been greater than their drone flying skills I appreciated them stepping up after months of trying to find SEAONC pilots to represent us. We can make up for those outcomes next year in Maui.
It was a pleasure to watch two SEAONC members, Wayne Low and Kevin Moore, be inducted as SEAOC Fellows for their years of service to the association. I was also proud of the two Northern winners of Excellence in Structural Engineering awards, Degenkolb Engineers for the CPMC Van Ness Campus Hospital and Arup for 181 Fremont and one Award of Merit winner to Nabih Youssef Associates for the Apple Park Visitor Center.
SEAONC was well represented on state committees and as technical presenters. I hope that more and more SEAONC members have the opportunity to attend the convention. It is an amazing opportunity for professional enrichment and advancement of the structural engineering profession in California. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success.
