March President's Message

Joe Maffei’s presentation on the Challenges of Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit at the February monthly meeting was exceptional. The presentation highlighted the fact that we practice in a rare and privileged environment where our members readily share their experience and technical expertise. I really enjoyed the moments during the presentation when Joe called out other SEAONC members that readily share their understanding of various code and policy issues with him when he calls them with questions.

If you enjoy these types of opportunities you are going to want to join us for the March 3 and April 13th SEAONC monthly meetings (Note the Monday date in April). The March meeting topic is “The Coming Shift Toward Resilience and Recovery-Based Design” with the panel of David Bonowitz, Jon Heintz, Ryan Kersting and moderator Jonathan Buckalew.

In April Ron Hamburger will present on the proposed mitigation for the Millennium Tower. We were lucky to get the PG&E auditorium for the April presentation (with help from a dedicated SEAONC member) so pass the word. I also look forward to seeing many of you at the National Earthquake Conference the first week of March. See you all soon.
